Public prosecutors are advocates appointed by the central or state government to represent cases on behalf of the state against the suspected criminal in criminal trials. The main responsibility of a public prosecutor is to serve justice in the interest of the public. A public prosecutor remains impartial and neutral. They ensure that the case is clearly presented before the court with all the pertinent facts, documents and evidence so that the court can arrive at the correct judgement. A public prosecutor also helps the police during the pre-trial investigation by obtaining warrants and preparing the chargesheet.
